Dental Implants vs Bridges vs Dentures: What Actually Lasts Longer?

The short answer to this question is dental implants. Implants are the longest-lasting tooth-replacement option, with the potential to last a lifetime. This is because we carefully place an implant into your jawbone, where it replaces your tooth root by integrating with and fusing to your bone, since it's made of biocompatible titanium. A dental implant is also the closest you can get to a natural tooth since it replaces your root.

Understanding Dental Bridges

A bridge relies on two dental crowns for support for a prosthetic tooth (or teeth) in between. Our dentists would alter your two healthy teeth to act as anchors for the crowns supporting the tooth or teeth that "bridge" the gap between your missing teeth.

A bridge is an ideal solution for patients who aren't good candidates for dental implants or who don't want to undergo the surgery required for placement.

How Dentures Restore Missing Teeth

A partial denture fills in the gaps left by multiple missing teeth, while still allowing you to retain your healthy, remaining natural teeth. The partial anchors to your teeth with clasps, and the appliance has artificial teeth strategically attached to fill in the gaps. It is a removable appliance that you can soak and clean overnight.

A complete denture replaces an entire arch of missing teeth. The appliance is typically removable and made of acrylic that restores your teeth and facial structure.

Dental Implants in Coral Gables, FL

Dental implants use three integral pieces to create your new tooth: the implant, an abutment or connector, and the restoration. Our dentists use a custom porcelain crown to top a single dental implant, and we can also use two to six dental implants to support a bridge or denture.
